What is the Global Healing Response?
Our world has met a number of physical disasters just in the past few years. In such natural catastrophes the physical disruption to earth and the local environs causes mayhem and destruction to those living amidst the chaos. Loss of life, emercencies, evacuations and tremendous amounts of caregiving are needed as the area goes into emergency status.
Many ask, what can I do?
The Global
Healing Response is an initiative for using the labyrinth in a variety of
ways to come together communally in support of those afflicted by a community
disaster. Labyrinth facilitators, caretakers and those who possess labyrinths
have the opportunity to gather community together in a walk of solidarity
and support. Each walk may have its own variations, added values or support
customs, however the main idea is to come together in community and walk
with intention of healing.
Many who live in our communities can be indirectly affected and in a way we are all indirectly affected by disaster in our world, remember everyone has something to offer and all community is welcome to join in.
Past Walks with the Healing Global Response
Hurricane Katrina was the first walk where the Healing Global Response was used and communities came together with purpose for aid and support. Many came to make sense out of the destructive forces of nature, while others came to support a family or friend either living in the area or down amidst the emergency teams aiding. Mostly the walk was designed to send healing as a response to the sudden ills afflicted on the physical area and those so severly afflicted. Communities around the globe came together for the healing of this natural disaster.
Haiti was the next area the Global Healing Response took initiative and hosted walks for communities to build around. The devastation from the Earthquake of Haiti left a wide path of desctruction in it's path and confusion in every area of this already poor country. As the world reached out in reaction and support, the Global Healing Response answered.
